Craft Challenge #4 Alien Stuffie

I am back with another stash busting craft! This month I made an alien stuffie in attempts to bust through my collection of polyfill stuffing and my ever growing accumulation of fabric.

I found this alien stuffie pattern in a book called Sew Fantasy Toys by Melanie McNeice. She creates the cutest stuffie patterns. You have to go and check her out!

The alien stuffie turned out ok for a first attempt. When sewing stuffies, you need to have a perfectionist attitude. The 1/4″ seams need to be followed exactly or else you will end up with a bumpy looking stuffie. I had to redo the head three times and it is still not great! Next time I will draw a seam line onto the fabric to guide me around the curves and corners. Hopefully this will result in a smooth seam line.

The book comes with easy to follow directions. The patterns are actual size, making it easy to transfer the pattern to tracing paper.

I made the eyes out of felt. I added interfacing to the back of the felt so I could fuse it into place on the stuffie. The smile is embroidered. Before gifting the alien stuffie, I will add a blanket stitch around each eye to ensure that the eyes stay put.

After stuffing the alien, I hand stitched the hole in the back with a ladder stitch. Hopefully you can not see it!
