I came across this lovely saying awhile ago: “I never knew how much love my heart could hold until someone called me Mommy”. It has remained with me because it is so true! I needed to think of a craft to display this heartfelt saying and with Mother’s Day right around the corner, I decided to showcase the quote in a shadow box made with my Silhouette CAMEO.
For this project you will need:
- Cardstock in white and patterned print
- Photograph of child
- Pop dots
- Liquid paper glue
- Ribbon
- Silhouette CAMEO
- Square Shadow Box Frame cut file (available in the Silhouette Design Store)
- FREE printable: I never knew how much LOVE my heart-Grandma or I never knew how much LOVE my heart-Mommy
To begin:
- Open the shadow box frame in Silhouette Studio. I resized the box so that the whole design fit onto 1 sheet of 12×12 cardstock. My box was just under 6″ in diameter.
- I also made an alteration to the front frame. I decreased the size of the inner square to give the frame added dimension.
- EXCEPT for the solid square, cut all pieces onto patterned cardstock.
- Next, import the free printable into Silhouette Studio. Resize the printable and center it inside of the square that you did not cut.
- Use the print and cut feature to make the printable. I used white cardstock.
- Assemble the shadow box using this youtube video from Lori Whitlock. She doesn’t show this exact box in this tutorial, but the steps are all the same.
- Before glueing the top flap of the shadow box, remember to add a ribbon to hang the frame.
- Allow the glue to dry overnight.
- Print a small picture of your little one. My picture is 3″x2″.
- Place 4 pop dots on the back of the picture and adhere it to the printable.
Tip: To make the printable appear centred in the shadow box, I found that I had to place the printable slightly lower than centred. It’s an optical illusion! You may want to make the square surrounding the printable a little larger so that you have a little bit of wiggle room.
This free printable could be used in many different ways. Do you have a great idea? Please share it in the comments. I’d love to hear your ideas!
Thank you for checking out my blog and have a great day!
