Tea Party Gift Set

To celebrate Mother’s Day, my kids and I have have decided to plan a surprise tea party for Grandma. We made a tea party gift set complete with tea, iced tea for the kids, cookies and confetti.

For those of you who don’t know, I am a huge fan of the Silhouette CAMEO. It is by far my favourite crafting tool. With it, I made everything in this set including the 3D teapot box, gift tag, bag toppers and confetti.

The 3D teapot may look a little intimidating, but it was actually really easy to assemble. All you need is a little liquid paper glue to adhere the tabs in place. The designer Loni Harris has a detailed tutorial on her blog that clearly explains each step of this project.

I made a couple of alterations to the teapot.

  • I increase the size of the teapot so that it would fit onto 2 pieces of 12×12 cardstock. I also cut the lid and bottom out of pink cardstock.
  • Because my paper was two toned, I needed to make a mirrored copy of the spout and handle so that both sides of the cardstock would show the same pattern.
  • I added this adorable teabag Mother’s Day card by combining the butterfly tea bag and the happy mother’s day gift card tag.

All in all, I couldn’t be more happy with the way that the teapot turned out!

Here’s a look inside of the teapot. There’s lots of room for tea and cookies!

I added a bag topper bow to make the contents look more presentable. I then added a label to the front of the bag topper to identify what is inside each bag.

To make the labels in Silhouette Studio (the software that comes with the Silhouette CAMEO) follow these steps:

  • Select a font, then type the label and adjust the cut setting to no cut.
  • Open the offset window. Leave the default settings as-is. Ensure that the cut setting is set to cut.
  • Adjust the page size if necessary and then turn on the registration marks. This is needed to perform the print & cut.
  • Arrange the labels onto the cutting mat (the virtual one in Silhouette Studio) making sure that they are within the white area and not touching the greyed out areas.
  • Send the labels to the printer.
  • Once printed, place the paper onto the cutting mat and continue to cut the designs out with the Silhouette CAMEO.
  • If your CAMEO can not detect the registration marks, close the lid of your machine and cut in a well lit area.

I love giving gifts that are handmade. The kids helped to make the cookies and I made the teapot and card. Best of all, this gift is all about spending time together as a family, both in the preparation and in the execution. I think Grandma is going to be very touched by our efforts. I can’t wait to see her reaction!
