I am so excited to share this primary colour spyglass craft with you today! This craft and teaching tool turned out great! Just look at how wonderfully the colours blend together. Even brown can be made by combining all three primary colours. This is such a great way for children to learn about colours. It’s a thumbs up from everyone when kids learn through fun and play and my kids were no exception. They had a blast playing with their primary colour spyglass. I love listening to my children’s “aha moments” and questions as they discovered and explored the world of colours with their spyglass.
Here’s the how-to:
SUPPLIES
- template of spyglass (available FREE upon subscription in PDF and SVG)
- cardstock (2 pieces)
- cellophane in red, yellow, and blue
- pencil for tracing
- scissors
- tape
- glue stick
- hole punch
- 1 brad
STEP 1
Cutout 6 spyglasses using the template available upon subscription to The Art in Martha. 2 cutouts are needed for each spyglass because the cellophane is sandwiched in between.
STEP 2
Cut red, yellow and blue cellophane squares large enough to cover the hole of the spyglass.
STEP 3
Tape the cellophane in place and trim any excess.
STEP 4
Apply glue to adhere the first spyglass to the second one.
STEP 5
Punch a hole through the spyglasses and then insert a brad to keep the spyglasses together. You can tape the brad to the back if you like.
STEP 6
Enjoy! I found that the secondary colours showed best when my kids looked out a window or with a white background.
Children can use the spyglass to look at books…
…or wear them around like a pair of glasses!
The primary colour spyglass is fun all around!
